Homework Policy

Homework is assigned every night.  The assignments given are review of the material the children have already learned.  In third grade, the children are responsible for copying down their own homework.  Homework assignments will NOT be given on Dojo!

  • Using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words

Completing a Short Response:

  • Restate/Introduction Sentence
  • Answer the question
  • Give 2 facts, details, or examples from the text
  • Tie it up/Conclusion Sentence

Completing an Extended Response:

  • Create an introductory paragraph mentioning the topic
  • Create a paragraph for each part of the question- use details from the text(s) to support each answer
  • Create a conclusion paragraph tying up your thoughts

Social Studies

In third grade, students study world cultures.  The regions studied include:

  • Geography Skills
  • Africa, with an emphasis on Nigeria
  • Asia, with an emphasis on China
  • Europe
  • South America

When studying these regions, we focus on:

  • the land
  • the people
  • the government
  • major historical events


In Science, the children explore:

  • Living Organisms
  • Forces and Motion
  • The Earth and Water
  • The Planets
